I have always loved Joseph Cornell and his constructions. He made sophisticated little worlds, mysterious and specific, enclosed, ordered, yet incomprehensible. Down in the cellar of his little house in Queens, piecing and setting and balancing, with glue and wire and paper, intricate reliquaries of fantasy and symbols - altars, doorways, vessels.
So I have my birdhouses and boxes and drawings. I want to make complete little places too, with their own small worlds, constrained and complete.
